2009 Schulmania - New ZealandState Visit

South Wellington Coast - Red Rocks, NZ Fur Seals

We took a stroll around the south Wellington coast to the Red Rocks, Fur Seal colony...

What we did not realise was that the stroll was 8km (5 mi) each way.

Eventually we made it...  but only because a nice local in  a pick up truck complete with dead opossum in the back tray, picked us up and took us the last 3 km.   He even gave us a ride back...   thank goodness for that.   It definitely did not look 8 km each way on the map from the carpark where we parked...   stupid tourists.

These seals are the young males that did not get girl friends this breeding season...   so in theory they are less aggressive, but it does pay to keep a respectful distance.   Also they do smell a bit...

The coast is rugged but very beautiful.

Of course I made beautiful scenery even more so.

No visit to Wellington is complete without a trip up the cable car.

That white and pink building on the right reminds me of that one Zelgadis likes to use in his CJ....

Wellington Harbour and CBD at dusk from Oriental Bay.

We had dinner here...  but we had beef steaks...  honest Zel!
