    New Agriculture Commissioner Named

BELVA DEAR, WIRDLEONIA (Feline News Network) Princess Katherine traveled from Robinia to Belva Dear to announce the Supreme Wirdle’s decision for a replacement for departed Agriculture Commissioner Peter Rabbit. An exhaustive and high-profile  nationwide search led to seven candidates being summoned to Wirtyplace to be interviewed by the Supreme Wirdle and Bureau of Feline Affairs council members. Despite intensive lobbying by Count Chocula and the Jolly Green Giant, both did not make the final interview cut. Princess Katherine traveled to Belva Dear to announce the new selection at his hometown. The Supreme Wirdle has selected Zelgadis Junior to be the new Agriculture Commissioner. In her proclamation, she cited his advocacy for farming and his specialized knowledge of leafy greens. She also applauded his efforts to remain fully engaged in the outdoors and tireless campaigning for bountiful crops. She feels that Zelgadis Junior is the best selection for the position and she looks forward to his eagerness and energy helping Schulmania grow. In congratulating Zelgadis Junior on his new post, Princess Katherine urged him to “hop to it” and to enjoy his new position.

    Von Bremerhaven Day Proclaimed

WOODS OF WAYNE, EAST ATKINOS (Feline News Network) Residents of Woods of Wayne, where Fleet Captain von Bremerhaven has based his eastern fleet, have proclaimed May 29th to be Von Bremerhaven Day  to commemorate the fleet captain’s birthday. Festivities include a parade and a festival. Free hams from all over the realm will be served to all partiers and special performances by the Pride of the Southland Band from Knoxvegas will highlight the day. It is expected that a special proclamation from the Supreme Wirdle will also expand the fleet captain’s role in the eastern maritime region. Perhaps, he will head up the development of the eastern fleet of exploration. Sources in Wirtyplace indicate it is more likely that she will confer upon him a new title.

    Senior Government Official Resigns

WIRT, SCHULMANICUS (Feline News Network) Highly-placed sources in Wirtyplace confirm that that the Agriculture Commission will soon be without a head. Peter Rabbit, longtime advisor to the Supreme Wirdle in agricultural affairs, has tendered his resignation. The departure comes as surprise, as Peter has successfully weathered many storms in his long tenure, most recently the scandal regarding his trespassing into Mr. McGregor’s garden in search of lettuces. His spokesperson, Beatrix Potter, reports that Peter is not leaving due to any impropriety and is instead concentrating on family matters. She indicated that Peter has been quite busy preparing for the lavish weddings of two of his sisters, Flopsy and Mopsy. As the male head of household, he has to pay for and organize the weddings. Unnamed sources close the family report the two as being “real bridezillas” and quite demanding of him and his time. Additionally, Peter has taken custody of his wayward cousin, Benjamin Bunny.

Several interested parties have indicated their desire to lead the Agriculture Commission, most notably Sir Ossie, Lady Antebellum and Count Chocula. The Supreme Wirdle has not named a replacement as of yet but will be searching nationwide for a capable commissioner.
