Wirdleplex: Military Readiness

The Bureau of Feline Affairs has established The Wirdleplex as a special military district for the purpose of developing an effective defense for the nation. Despite its large size, it has yet to appear on any maps and has thus been spared enemy attacks. Furthermore, the entire region has been enclosed within massive stone fortifications, colloquially known as the ‘Great Wall of Schulmania’. The wall extends along the northern and western borders of The Wirdleplex and along much of its coastline (mainland) as well. To guard the mouth of the strategic Wirdleonia River, the massive Salembourg fortress has been erected and serves as the ‘Corregidor of Schulmania’. The Bureau of Feline Affairs has moved its headquarters from Temple Terrace, Schulmanicus to the center of The Wirdleplex, which also houses the command center for the BFA military. The Wirdleplex hosts a majority of Schulmania’s military training facilities, arsenals and weapons. Today, we will explore more of how The Wirdleplex has helped Schulmania’s defenses.

We enter through the West Portal, situated along the center of the border with East Wirdleonia. The town of Catareina is not far to the west and sprouted up thanks to the massive influx of personnel into The Wirdleplex.

There are several garrisons, forts and command posts spread throughout the territory, in addition to the urbanized center which serves as the region’s capital. At right is the command post for sector Beta 6S, commanded by BFA Military Colonel Harlan Sammders, who gained fame for his original recipe of eleven herbs and spices to make a more effective propellant for Schulminion cannonballs.

The post includes a contingent of mechanized armored vehicles. The tanks, manufactured at a secret facility at Port Orange, New Atkinos, are known in the feline world as wampus cats, after the legendary fierce cats of local lore. Hundreds of these have been manufactured but not many have made it to the front lines yet.

The Schulmania National Military hopes that the addition of mechanized units will stabilize the eastern front and offer our forces the opportunity to launch an offensive against entrenched enemy positions.

At left is the heart of Fort Calico, whose red brick, castle-like construction projects the strength and resolve of the feline military. Fort Calico is commanded by BFA Colonel Robinson and is currently bustling with activity, since most of the regiment housed here is due to deploy to East Atkinos shortly. These forces are due to reinforce army units engaged in trench warfare in northern East Atkinos.

Wirdleplex Naval Base consists of three military port facilities—two of which are on the mainland and one offshore at Salembourg. Together, these three provide the single greatest concentration of naval force in the feline world.

The Wirdleplex is many things to many people, but its primary purpose is as a special military district. At its heart is a vast complex of barracks, housing thousands of military personnel. Each standard quadrangle houses nearly 500 soldiers or sailors. Thousands are stationed here. There are thousands more scattered in outposts across the region. But, this is the largest concentration of military in the nation. And it is from here that Schulmania is hoping to turn the tide of the war definitively in our favor.
